BUCOVINA - MANASTIRILE PICTATE
Bucovina is situated in the north east part of Romania. There are many hills and mountains covered by forests and grazing fields. In this place we can found many monasteries on a relative compressed area, most of them built during the reign of STEPHAN THE GREAT (STEFAN CEL MARE), a romanian king. The legend says that after every victory in battles , Stephan the Great built a new monastery, this thing being the explanation of the numerous existent monasteries.
Their national and international importance is given not mostly by theirage , but by their interior and exterior paintings made only from natural vegetal paints, the secret of ” Blue Voronet” being undiscovered not even today.
The most important monasteries from Bucovina are:
- VORONET, built in 1488 during in only three months and a half, is called by the specialists ”The Sixtin Chappel” of the East. “The misterious Blue Voronet”, but also the “famous red” of Tizian or “Green of Veronese” still rest a mistery over the centuries.
- Gura Humorului built in 1530 during the reign of Petru Rares is considered historical monument, making port like every other monasteries from UNESCO patrimony. It has one of the most beautiful exterior paintings.
- PUTNA , situated in the northest part of the monasteries proposed tour, is the place where Stephan The Great was buried. It offers to the visitors the richest monahal museums in the area.
SUCEVITA, built in 1581 during the reign of Petre Schiopul is one of the Bucovina jewel, it's interior but mostly exterior painting offering a real “festival” of vegetal paints. The legend says that a corner of the monastery rest unpainted because the scaffolding where the painter was climbed was broke, he falled down and died.
MOLDOVITA, situated in a mountain area was build durring Petru Rares reign in 1532, being a nuns monastery. It also offers extraordinary external and interior paintings being a real masterpiece of Christian orthodox tradition of roumanian people over centuries.
Another important touristic objective that should not be missed is MARGINEA villgae,where the visitors could admire and buy jewels of culture and romanian tradition(potery, ceramics, wooden sculptures, traditional clothes, etc).
The accomodation is usualy made in traditional guest houses agreed by the Ministry of Tourism.The food is also traditional, very tasty, ecological prepared, based on meat, cream, milk, mushrooms, etc. We recomande ”Radauteana soup” or “Mushrooms with cream and maize porridge”.
The most gues houses are build from wood, they have spacefull and lighted rooms, bathrooms with showers and permanent hot water.
